A crewed yacht charter in Monaco starts from around €2,000 for a day on the water, and from around €40,000 for a week aboard a private motor yacht with crew. Here's exactly what's included and what to budget for, so you can plan with confidence and no surprises.
What are you paying for on a yacht charter?
Charter rates cover the whole yacht and her professional crew, not a price per person. Shared between your group, a full-day charter can work out from around €170 per guest, and a week on a 25–35m yacht with 8 guests from around €5,000 per guest, including your private crew, captain, and chef.
The base fee includes:
- the yacht, for your exclusive use;
- her full crew and their wages;
- insurance.

What is the base charter fee?
This is the weekly or daily hire of the yacht and her crew. It's the headline price, and the figure the other costs are calculated from. The rates for each category are in the table above.

What is APA on a yacht charter?
APA isn't a fee. It's an advance for your yacht's running costs, such as fuel, food, and berthing, fully accounted for by the captain, with anything unspent returned to you.
In Monaco the APA is typically 25%–40% of the base fee; around 35% is a sensible budget. It covers the yacht's running costs during your charter: fuel, food, drinks, berthing and other expenses.
You pay it in advance to the captain, who keeps a full account of every expense. Any unspent amount is returned to you at the end.
How much VAT is charged on a Monaco yacht charter?
For charters starting in Monaco, VAT of 20% is added to the charter fee. It's the embarkation country that sets the rate, not the yacht's flag. VAT is not charged on the APA.
How much should I tip the crew?
Tipping is discretionary and given at the end of the charter, typically 5%–15% of the base fee, with 10% customary. See our first-time guide for etiquette.
Is it cheaper to charter outside July and August?
May, June and September are often 20%–35% cheaper than July and August for the same yacht, with calmer harbours and warm water.
How do event weeks affect charter prices?
During the Monaco Grand Prix and the Monaco Yacht Show, rates, berth costs and APA rise significantly, and the best yachts and berths book many months in advance.
